For my first post, I'd like to share one of my favorite tintypes. The original is unusually large, and the photo looks as if it was taken in a barn. I'm still researching to identify this lovely family, but believe they are McEwens or Stewarts. These fine folks make me smile; I'll bet they never imagined they would one day be touring the world on a blog banner!

Congrats Cathy - nicely done! Thanks for being so generous!
ReplyDeleteI am so excited to see what you have to share!
ReplyDeleteWhat a handsome family...thanks for sharing this wonderful image. I'd love to hear more about them if your research turns up anything.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your new blog! I enjoy vintage images and the history behind them. Will be visiting you often.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun family. Even though they had to hold so still, one can see the personality, especially of the Dad, in the barely contained twinkle in his eyes.
ReplyDeleteThis is a GREAT tintype! Thanks for sharing! It is interesting to see the expressions on the individual family members' faces. For a long time I didn't realize that the reason a lot of people look so serious in these old photos is that it took a long time for the exposure when the photographer took the picture, and smiling for so long would have been difficult or uncomfortable!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to find you, thanks so very much for sharing so many interesting pieces!
